Charities supported by Pro Patria Lodge

Regular English Freemasonry began in 1717 with the establishment of the first Grand Lodge of England. A few years later in 1725 this Grand Lodge set up its first formal Charity Committee and our tradition of Charity Festivals and charitable giving began.

Charity is the beating heart of Freemasonry.

Throughout our own history Pro Patria Lodge has made donations to many local, national and international charities.

Charitable giving and helping those in need is a tenet dearly held by Freemasons and we hold a charity collection at all our ceremonial meetings and social events.

Here are just a few of the Charities we have supported. Please visit their sites and find out about their work.

In 2014 our Worshipful Master John Shepherd on behalf of the Lodge donated a visitor bench and plaque to the National Memorial Arboretum (NMA). The bench is situated just next to the Freemason Memorial. Lodge members visited in 2014 in order to see the bench and pay their respects.

Situated in Staffordshire the National Memorial Arboretum is a very special place and is well worth a visit.

We also raise funds for charities supported by our Provincial Grand Master and for the Masonic Charitable Foundation. Masonic charities benefit everyone, non-masons and masons alike.

Also and importantly The Masonic Charitable Foundation regulary provides substantial grants to non-masonic organisations and charities such as hospices, medical or social researchers and supportive charities in our community.

PGL festivalEmergency relief grants are also given both nationally and internationally when a dreadful catastrophy occurs.

More information can be found about the Masonic Charitable Foundation and Freemasonry's commitment to charitable giving by visiting the United Grand Lodge of England website.

In 2017 our Masonic Province of Worcestershire began a fundraising Festival for the Masonic Charitable Foundation. Our Province has set a target of £2,022,000 to be raised by 2022 so there will be lots of fundraising events over the next 5 years and all the Worcestershire Freemasons will be working towards achieving this.

We also ensure we remember and help the widows of our brethren who have sadly passsed on. Each year at Christmas Pro Patria Lodge provides a gift for each of them and our Almoner regularly updates us on their welfare and that of any Pro Patria brethren who are unwell or incapacitated.

Freemasonry is about caring for everyone and giving what we can to alleviate the privations of those less fortunate.
